Natural Killer (NK) cells are key for cancer immune surveillance due to unique cytotoxic properties. Previous studies of Prof. Christian Stockmann's research group indicated that deficiency of Hypoxia-inducible transcription factors (HIFs) impairs NK cell immune surveillance, opening up new research avenues. The funded research project will, first, elucidate the role of HIFs in NK cell performance and, second, target HIF signaling in NK cells therapeutically to counteract tumor progression and metastasis.
