Johannes Loffing

Johannes Loffing is full professor at the Institute of Anatomy since 2007.

The general goal of his research is to understand how the kidneys maintain ion balance and how deranged underlying mechanism lead to human diseases including arterial hypertension.

Johannes Loffing received his MD at the University of Münster in 1993. After clinical training in Urology in Herford and Münster, he worked as an assistant at the Institute of Anatomy of the University of Zurich before he went as a postdoctoral fellow to the Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, NH, USA in 1996. After his return to Zurich, he obtained the venia legendi in Anatomy in 2003. From 2003 to 2004, he headed his own research group at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the University of Lausanne before he switched as an associate professor in Anatomy to the University of Fribourg. In 2007, he obtained a chair in Anatomy at the University of Zurich.

His research is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Johannes Loffing is the director of the NCCR Kidney.CH.
